This Victorian wooden trinket box is suitable for holding cherished keepsakes, jewellery, or small treasures. It features a rich, dark brown wood construction with intricate mother of pearl inlay on both the lid and the front and side panels. The inlay forms delicate floral and scroll patterns, complemented by a rectangular mother of pearl escutcheon around the keyhole. The box opens to reveal a faded blue fabric lining in the main compartment, which includes a removable tray, also fabric-lined. The brass hinges are visible when the lid is open. The overall aesthetic is characteristic of the period. The wood displays minor surface wear, light scratches, and a few small knocks consistent with its age. The mother of pearl inlay is largely intact, showing some slight discolouration in areas. The fabric lining is faded, stained, and shows noticeable wear, particularly on the removable tray. The lock mechanism is present, though no key is provided. This antique box is ideal for a dressing table, desk, or display cabinet.
