This pair of highly decorated bronze ceremonial smoking pipes was made by the Bamoun (or Bamum) people of the Grassfields region of western Cameroon.

Rather than objects for everyday smoking, pipes of this kind were powerful symbols of royal authority. They were used by kings, chiefs and important members of the court during rituals, diplomatic occasions and ceremonies.
