Hand-forged by skilled Konda blacksmiths of the Mongo group, this distinctive Congolese metalwork has two dramatic outward-curving iron blades resembling ram's horns, attached to an ornamental central stem with serrated edges and decorative perforations.

These implements were rarely used as active combat weapons. Instead, they served as highly valued prestige insignia signifying wealth, political power and high social status, as well as a form of trade currency for important social transactions such as dowries.

The iron has a dark oxidised patina with surface pitting, natural irregularities and corrosion. The turned wooden handle shows age-related scuffs and losses to its dark finish. Please refer to the photographs for condition.
