About Magpie x Hornsea

The Magpie x Hornsea collection celebrates the legacy of the iconic pottery brand, Hornsea.

Founded in 1949 by Colin and Desmond Rawson, Hornsea Potteries grew from crafting seaside trinkets to becoming the largest studio pottery in the world, employing over 700 people.

Hornsea’s success was driven by innovative techniques and inspirational designs, making it a beloved name in British ceramics for 50 years before closing in 2000.

Magpie has partnered to reintroduce some of Hornsea’s most iconic designs, including John Clappison’s Cat and Owl illustrations from 1967. These designs have been carefully redrawn from archival illustrations preserved in the Hornsea Museum.

Glazed in authentic Hornsea colors from the era, the Cat Money Box is a charming mid-century piece reimagined for today’s collectors and design enthusiasts.
