A (laser)cut above the rest
We’re excited to bring you Broughshane-based artist, Jessica Brandt-Kelly; the latest artist to exhibit at On the Square Emporium.
Working under her own brand ‘Moonbeam & Laser’, Jessica uses an interesting array of colours and shapes from a variety of laser-cut materials, some of which are hand-painted, and then combined to form a beautiful range of other-wordly artwork, functional homeware, and distinctive jewellery – some of which feature her signature Kingfisher design.
Jessica assembles a vibrant blend of new and reclaimed materials to create her instantly recognisable aesthetic; Inspired by ethereal aspects of Northern Ireland’s nature and weather, the Moonbeam and Laser range captures the atmosphere of dense forests and eerie sunsets, with pockets of light and feelings of comfort.
“Being introduced to the world of laser cutting at university in 2010, it captured my curiosity and interest almost immediately. Since then, the process of laser cutting has become as organic to me as putting pencil to paper.”
Jessica started to explore the world of Fashion and Textile whilst studying at the University of Ulster, Belfast. She has a keen interest in fashion and more specifically, the concepts behind the designs. She has also gained much experience, working for 10 years in the costume department within Northern Ireland’s burgeoning TV and Film industry. Since acquiring her first laser cutter, Jessica has begun moving in a direction that is true to her as an artist, capturing ethereal fantasies that can be found within the mundance.
