This is an original WW1 German Stahlhelm M16 helmet. It has visible markings which appear to read '36th Ulster Division Somme 1914-1918' on one side, and 'Coal Scuttle WWI German Helmet' on the other. This suggests the helmet was captured and re-purposed after the war. The helmet is made of steel, and although it shows wear and tear consistent with its age and use, including scuffs and some rust, it is in good condition considering its age and history. This helmet is a rare and unique piece of military history. A great gift for collectors or someone interested in WW1.
