This is a vintage fire insurance mark featuring a raised design of a torch surrounded by a laurel wreath. Fire insurance marks are metal plaques marked with the emblem of the insurance company which were affixed to the front of insured buildings as a guide to the insurance company's fire brigade. These identification marks were used in the eighteenth and nineteenth century in the days before municipal fire services were formed. The sign has a circular shape with four mounting holes. The metal has a weathered patina, adding to its vintage charm. The back shows signs of age and wear. This decorative piece could be used as a unique wall decor item. It is in good vintage condition.
