The Whitbread Brewery Company was founded in London in 1742 and became one of the largest brewers in the UK. In the late 18th and 19th centuries, Whitbread used large wagons pulled by powerful dray horses to deliver barrels of their beer to pubs, inns and retailers in London and beyond.
This model of a Whitbread dray wagon and Shire horse shows the wagon loaded with brown beer barrels, with the powerful horse in profile wearing an ornate harness and reins attached to the front of the wagon.
