About Magpie x Hornsea

The Magpie x Hornsea collection celebrates the iconic pottery brand’s rich design legacy.

Founded in 1949 by Colin and Desmond Rawson, Hornsea Potteries grew from crafting seaside trinkets to becoming the largest studio pottery in the world, employing over 700 people.

Known for its innovative techniques and timeless designs, Hornsea remained a beloved name in ceramics for 50 years before closing in 2000.

Magpie has reintroduced some of Hornsea’s most cherished designs, beginning with John Clappison’s Cat and Owl illustrations from 1967. These delightful designs were redrawn from archival illustrations preserved in the Hornsea Museum and brought to life using authentic Hornsea colors from the era.

This collection includes cruet sets and money boxes, reimagined with new ceramic molds to capture the charm of these mid-century masterpieces for today’s audiences.
