A Sikes Hydrometer kit in a velvet lined, mahogany box. The box features an inlay which reads, "Sykes's Hydrometer Loftus 146 Oxford Strt London". This set is missing the thermometer but all other pieces are present.
This Sikes hydrometer set would have been made after the 1816 act of Parliament that replaced the Clarkes hydrometer as the standard method of measuring wines & spirits by Excise officers.
