A lovely His-and-Hers pair of farmhouse chairs from a cottage near Muff, County Donegal.
Sold as a pair, it is remarkable how these chairs have survived the lifetimes of use and abuse as basic domestic furniture in a working country environment.
Woodwork nerds will appreciate the oval nature of the spindles, indicating that these were turned while the timber was still damp, which is evidence of the chairs being proper country-made chairs (not from a factory).
Made with elm and beech woods, they have natural wear to the surfaces; there is some historic woodworm to the leg on the shorter chair.
Unusual to discover a pair in such good condition.
